A Taipei government official promised that there will be mass weddings for gay couples.

Xu Lin-min Taipei citiy’s bureau of social affairs and gander equality office’s secretary said that he will have to discuss with other departments whether gay couples would marry alongside or separately.

Taipei’s mass wedding tradition was held for many years but only open to ‘men and women complying with the requirements of civil law marriage.’

Chien Chih-chieh, secretary-general of the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights was interviewed and she said “This is not news” – for the Liberty Times.

Gay people are also citizens of Taipei. I do not understand why you need to hold a separate gay mass wedding,’ she said.

Two mass weddings are announced for May and October with quota of 100 couples.
